TIPPING POINT 1)2)
The threshold at which the rhythm of growth propagation of some phenomenon ceases to be linear and becomes exponential (P. MARSDEN, 2000, p.46).
The concept has been introduced by epidemiologists. It has however a much more general significance for many phenomena of similar behavioral characteristics. It should be compared with avalanches, self organized critical systems and percolation models.
It has been proposed also in relation to the propagation of memes as "mental epidemics" (M. GLADWELL, 2000)
