Or, according to O.R. YOUNG: "… any externally or internally generated force or process which threatens a system's stability in one or more respects" (1964, p.80).
Stressors may be external or internal, momentaneous or permanent. They are sometimes easily identified, but in some other cases they can be quite hidden.
