The range within which some variables (in biological systems) "… can fluctuate without seriously affecting the normal functioning of the organism" (M. MESAROVIC et al., 1973, p.68).
This notion, introduced by M. MESAROVIC et al., implies a principle of economy as, within the defined range, the system's regulators are not uselessly overburdened.
It would be interesting to consider the possible existence of satisfaction ranges in animal and human social systems.
