A rule applied in a repetitive way, generally in accordance with other rules.
R. SOKAL has shown that recursive rules can generate quite complex patterns, particularly when applied in connection with other rules (1968).
Other models in which recursive rules are a basic feature are M. MARUYAMA's deviation amplification processes and J. CONWAY's games of life.
