A graph of interconnected elements, quantitative- qualitative variables or concepts representing some system.
M. MARUYAMA introduced these models in order to represent multi-loop mutually-causal systems. (1968, p.81-2).
Each node in the graph is connected in a selective way to some others by in- and out-branches. Of these, some represent positive and others negative feedbacks. Flows may circulate continuously, or not, between the nodes.
Models of the same kind have been widely used by J. FORRESTER in his Systems Dynamics.
Of course, the usefulness of these models depends on an accurate evaluation by the modeler of the elements to be integrated as nodes into the model, and of the characteristics attributed to the branches.
