LEARNING (Second Order) 1)2)
← Back
Any process (in a hierarchy of such processes) which modifies an already ordered and registered significant pattern.
In G. BATESON's understanding, 2d order learning implies a reordering of the former pattern, in relation to the emergence of a new signal, or some alteration brought to the existing one. He gives the following examples of 2d order learning experiences or experiments: "Pavlovian, instrumental reward, instrumental avoidance, rote and so on" (1973, p.220).
