ISLAND EFFECT 1)2)4)
← Back
The appearance and eventual multiplication of original types in secluded environments.
Such types can be vegetal or animal species, or specific and original cultural traits in isolated human groups.
Isolation favors differenciation of any original stock through to "creative" innovation in some specific niche in a biotope, or more generally, environment.
It may also lead to co-evolution, when unfettered or suppressed by alien competition, for instance by introduced species or characters. End of isolation usually leads to the quick alteration or even destruction of biological or cultural diversity. (Mac Donald may kill regional recipes and the Uros of Lake Titicaca are now adept to Salsa music)
