"The translation of abstract cultural elements into action norms, roles and groups in order to instaure a more or less direct control upon social interactions" (After J.C. LUGAN, 1993, p48).
This process, described by T. PARSONS, leads to the shaping of social structures, and tends to reduce fluctuations within the social system. It is a form of regulation and leads to social homeostasis.
It may however become a stumbling block if a social system faces a need for really crucial changes.
