The impact of transmitted information upon the receiving system (Adapted from D. GERNERT, 2000, p. 254)
GERNERT adds "Information is anything that alters the state or the behavior of the receiving system"(Ibid)
It should be noted that information acquires meaning only when the receiver is a living being, specially a human being who is capable of very elaborate understanding, interpretation and subsequent action.
A barometer, for example, registers changes in atmospheric pressure. But it has a graduated face, because it can have a practical use only if a person is able to register a reading in a way that makes sense for he/she.
