HOMOPLATY 2)
← Back
The condition of a region of space that is about as broad and as long as possible.
This notion was introduced by L.F. RICHARDSON.
"The geometric figure which satisfies completely the property of 'homoplaty' is the circle. It is known, however, that a two-dimensional region cannot be divided into contiguous circles" (1961, p.139).
In such a space, the closest approach to homoplaty is obtained by hexagonal clusters. See: (two dimensional) "space structuration". This has very important implications for space occupancy in general ("hexagonal space filling").
