FUNCTION (Part-) 2)
← Back
An activity of a system or in an environment characterized by variables that remain constant over appreciable intervals of time. (after W.R. ASHBY, 1960, p.193).
ASHBY comments: "If one looks around one, only in the most chaotic surroundings will all the variables be changing"… and "… the environment of the living organisms tends typically to consist of parts that are rich in states of equilibrium" (Ibid).
Part-functions correspond to acquired constraints in the system and to behaviors created by learning or training, in correspondence with the main part-functions in the environment.
