The internal differentiation of a system under the limiting pressure of its environment.
As a system disposes of a considerable energy flow it may at its beginnings expand freely until it reaches spatial or energetic limits. It may however still be able to better its efficiency by a more differentiated internal organization and less wasteful use of its inputs.
