The rate of propagation in space of some type of elements.
Dispersal rates depend on:
- specific characteristics of the elements which are favorable or unfavorable to dispersion
- the general conditions of the environment, which can be: a) different in different directions (anisotropy)
- stable or unstable in time, as for example in case of cyclical or irregular climatic change.
