DESIGN (Generic) 1)2)
← Back
"That part of the process of design that is indifferent to what is being designed, being applicable whatever the target may be" (J. WARFIELD, pers. comm.).
To generic design, WARFIELD opposes specific design, "that part of the process of design that is particular to the target class" (Ibid).
Targets can be for example a product, or a system that, in turn, can be "tangible or intangible".
WARFIED enounces 32 basic postulates of Generic Design, related to:
- "The human being (7)
- "Language (6)
- "Reasoning through relationships (2)
- "Archival representation (6)
- "The design situation (2)
- "The design process (9)
WARFIELD's Generic Design methodology has been applied in a number of countries in Europe, Asia and both Americas. For a complete exposition of the methodology see bibliography (in particular: 1990, d).
