CONTROLLER (Adaptive) 1)2)4)
← Back
A control device "which adapt the decision rule in order to achieve stability in a given environment" (G. PASK, 1961, p.61).
PASK contemplates two applications:
"In one the environment is unknown but stationary, when the adaptive controller is used to perform experiments which could have been done by its designer, to build a model and to determine an optimum decision rule. In the other, the environment is non-stationary and the controller must continually relearn about it" (Ibid).
In this last case the controller must become hierarchically organized. In order not to be overwhelmed by the environment's multiple and unpredictable variations, a selector of inputs equipped with a suitable memory must be incorpored in the global control system. As noted by PASK, this is the role played by a good secretary for a manager.
