"A means whereby courses are chosen and kept so as to reach goals" (G. VICKERS, 1957, p.4).
Apart from the opposite effects of positive and negative controls, it should be noted that only humans seem able to choose positive control to reach their goals, at least at macro- or megalevels of actions.
Morevover they do not generally seem to be aware of the accumulation and potentially dangerous effects of repetitive positive feedbacks, used for positive control. This could very well lead to grave disasters now that mankind disposes of such powerful technical means.
