CONSTRAINT (Dynamical) 2)
← Back
"A selection criterion that determines which of the possible state transitions corresponding to different operators will actually take place" (F. HEYLIGHEN, 1990a, p.426).
"Dynamical constraints usually have the form of either:
1) differential (or difference) equations, relating the predicted state transition (time derivate of the state) to the present state
2) conservation principles, stating that a certain global property of the system (e.g. energy) must be conserved during the transition, or
3) variation or optimization. principles, stating that the transition will occur that minimizes (or maximizes) a certain function of the transition parameters (Ibid).
"A dynamical constraint corresponds to a distinction between an allowed state transition and an impossible one" (Ibid, p.427).
